Digital transformation strategist and renowned youth advocate Odamea Amoako has delivered a compelling message on the power of digital branding and personal agency in the age of social media.
In a recent interview with Akua Sika on the Happy Evening Drive Show, the youth advocate, speaking on the theme “The Power of Your Digital Brand and Voice,” emphasized the importance of intentionality when it comes to both content creation and content consumption especially on platforms like TikTok.

She urged young people and content creators alike to take control of their digital environments, warning that what users engage with directly influences what the algorithm continues to feed them.

“If you realise the content you are getting on your TikTok is not encouraging or doesn’t give you satisfaction on the exact things you are looking for, you can change that. Apart from searching for things you want to see, as time goes on you’ll realise the contexts you don’t want will start to clear off.”

She noted that the algorithm is a reflection of our digital habits, what we watch, like, comment on, and repost.

According to her , even engaging passively with controversial or negative content can lead to a feed that doesn’t align with one’s values or goals.

“Some people like to watch a beef video till it ends,” he pointed out. “The algorithm assumes that’s what you enjoy watching, so that’s the kind of content you’ll be getting any time you switch to TikTok.”

To counter this, the author recommended a process of “digital detoxification” by being intentional with engagement. This includes liking, searching, and interacting with content that aligns with one’s personal brand and vision.

She used the opportunity to encourage content creators, especially emerging ones to stop focusing on getting the highest number of engagements but rather, “Start with a purpose and a reason. When you start like that, as time goes on the numbers will automatically chase you.”
