Commercial transport operators have issued a one-week ultimatum to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to repair the worsening Pokuase–Nsawam road, warning of a nationwide protest if their demand is ignored.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC, the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), and allied unions say the road’s poor state is putting lives at risk and increasing operating costs.

“This is not just a challenge for commercial transport operators but for all motorists using this critical corridor to the Eastern, Ashanti, and other northern regions,” the unions said in a joint statement.

They described the situation as “disrupting daily life and economic activities,” citing frequent breakdowns, higher maintenance costs, and shorter vehicle lifespans.

The operators expressed frustration that an earlier pledge by the Roads Minister to fix the road within six weeks has gone unfulfilled.

“If no meaningful action is taken within one week, the GPRTU of TUC, GRTCC, and other commercial transport operators will park our vehicles and protest against the government until our concerns are addressed,” the statement warned.

The group is urging all affected motorists, commuters, and residents to join the planned protest, calling it a civic duty to compel authorities to act.
