President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra today, Sunday, August 17 on an official two-country visit to Japan and Singapore, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, boosting trade and investment, and deepening cooperation on shared development priorities.

In a statement issued by the Presidency and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, said the visit is expected to advance cooperation on shared development priorities.

While in Japan, President Mahama will participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he is expected to deliver a presentation during a plenary session on the theme: “Promoting Trade and Investment.”

President Mahama will also headline the Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, where he will highlight Ghana’s investment opportunities and the Resetting Ghana agenda. His schedule includes bilateral meetings with key Japanese partners such as the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), senior representatives of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Discussions will focus on investment, technical cooperation, and infrastructure development.

From Japan, President Mahama will proceed to Singapore for a three-day state visit. His engagements will include a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum, and an address at an investment forum.

He is expected to showcase Ghana’s reform and investment priorities, while encouraging stronger private-sector linkages between Ghanaian and Singaporean businesses.

The visits, according to the statement, are intended to attract new investment, expand market access for Ghanaian products and services, enhance technical and development cooperation, and strengthen partnerships in technology, infrastructure, finance, and human capital development.
