Team Ghana’s sprint squad has set up camp in Texas as preparations intensify for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The all-sprinter team, made up of Ghana’s fastest men in 2025, touched down in Texas on Sunday for a two-week training programme. Leading the group is Abdul Rasheed-Saminu, who etched his name into history in May by running 9.86 seconds, the fastest ever by a Ghanaian over 100m. He lowered that mark to 9.84 (+1.5) at Powder Springs in July, cementing his place among the world’s elite.
Ever consistent Benjamin Azamati is another key figure for Team Ghana, having clocked 9.98s (+1.2) at Sherman Oaks in May. He is expected to join the camp after completing a competition in Europe on August 18.
The sprinters currently in camp include Ibrahim Fuseini, Barnabas Aggerh, Mustapha Bokpin, and Isaac Botsio, all of whom have registered some of the fastest times in Ghana’s history this year:
•Benjamin Azamati – 9.98s (+1.2) – Sherman Oaks, CA – May 22
•Abdul-Rasheed Saminu – 9.84s (+1.5) – Powder Springs, GA – Jul 19
•Ibrahim Fuseini – 10.03s (−3.0) – Lubbock, TX – May 1
•Barnabas Aggerh – 10.06s (+1.9) – Marion, IN – May 23
•Joseph Paul Amoah – 10.08s (+1.5) – London, CAN – Jun 22
•Mustapha Bokpin – 10.09s (+1.4) – Powder Springs, GA – Jul 19
•Isaac Botsio – 10.11s (+1.6) – Canyon, TX – Apr 10
The team will train at Texas A&M University under the guidance of coach George Pincock, head track and field coach at the university.
Ghana’s 4x100m relay team has also already secured qualification for Tokyo, clocking 38.32 seconds to finish second in their heat at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, in May. That squad featured Joseph Paul Amoah, Sean Safo-Antwi, Ibrahim Fuseini, Barnabas Aggerh, and Mustapha Alufu Bokpin.
