The Ministry of Health has condemned a violent attack on healthcare professionals at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge), describing the incident as “unacceptable and dangerous.”
The assault occurred at the hospital’s Emergency Department, where relatives of a patient reportedly confronted staff over delays in care.
A nurse was physically assaulted during the altercation, prompting swift intervention by hospital security and the Ghana Police Service.
“This act of interference, aggression, and assault on health workers is deeply troubling. Such actions compromise critical healthcare delivery and endanger lives.”
In response, the Ministry announced immediate measures to reinforce security at the hospital and investigate the circumstances surrounding the delay in care.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh visited the facility following the incident.
“I want to assure the staff that the Ministry stands firmly behind them. Their safety and protection are non-negotiable.”
The Ministry urged the public to remain calm and respectful in healthcare settings.
“We call on all citizens to exercise patience and cooperation. Healthcare workers deserve our support, not hostility.”
