The Ghana Prisons Service has clarified that Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, is not part of prisoners granted Presidential.

Nana Agradaa, a former traditional priestess turned evangelist, is currently serving a 15-year jail term. Following President John Mahama’s letter dated August 18 granting clemency to 1,014 inmates, public debate has centered on whether she might be among the beneficiaries.

Speaking to the media, Superintendent Adamu Latif Abdul, a prison officer at the Nsawam Male Prison, explained that Agradaa does not qualify under the criteria set for the amnesty.

He noted that the list of beneficiaries was submitted to the Presidency before her sentencing, making her ineligible.

Superintendent Abdul further explained that although Agradaa is a first-time offender, the gravity of her offence and the fact that she has not served half of her sentence disqualified her.

“For a first-time offender to qualify for amnesty, the individual must have served at least half of the prison term. Nana Agradaa has not met this requirement, hence she cannot benefit from the presidential amnesty,” he stated.
