The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has disclosed that the Ghana Police Service(GPS) is in discussions with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to organize joint training sessions for police officers and journalists.

Speaking at a meeting with the GJA, led by its President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, at the Ghana International Press Centre on Wednesday, August 20, Mr. Yohuno reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to collaborating with the media to ensure the safety and protection of journalists in the line of duty.

He announced that a training programme will soon be held at Huhunya for both police personnel and journalists to strengthen their understanding of each other’s roles.

“The Police is in talks with the media so that when we engage in this type of training, we will understand each other’s rules. This is very important, and we will continue to organize such sessions together,” he said.

GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, commended the IGP and the Police Management Board for initiating the training, which he believes will improve relations between the media and the Police.

He stressed that the sessions will provide clarity on boundaries and responsibilities, thereby fostering unity and cooperation between the two sides.

“The training will help us understand where the line is, so we do not cross each other’s path. Together, we can work towards a common goal of ensuring a peaceful country,” he noted.
