Transport unions in Ghana have withdrawn their planned demonstration over the deteriorating Amasaman–Nsawam road following the contractor’s return to site.
In a joint statement issued Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), and other unions said the move was in response to the government’s intervention and renewed commitment to fixing the road.
“We commend the Government of Ghana and the relevant authorities for their timely intervention, which demonstrates a commitment to resolving the pressing challenges that affect both transport operators and commuters,” the statement read.
The unions had earlier threatened to strike if urgent repairs were not undertaken.
With construction now underway, they pledged continued collaboration with authorities to promote road safety and support sustainable infrastructure development.
“We remain committed to safeguarding lives and property and will work closely with stakeholders to ensure lasting improvements”.
