Hon. Yaw Frempong, Member of Parliament for Manso Adubia and a key voice on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Agriculture, has raised a pressing issue affecting Ghana’s agricultural sector: the lack of mechanization and irrigation infrastructure.
Speaking on behalf of countless farmers across the country, Frempong emphasized that the struggle to access modern farming equipment and reliable irrigation systems continues to hinder productivity and growth.
“Mechanization of land and irrigation is a huge problem facing farmers in Ghana,” he stated, underscoring the urgent need for strategic investment and policy reform.
Despite Ghana’s rich agricultural potential, many farmers still rely on manual labour and rain-fed farming, leaving them vulnerable to climate variability and low yields.
The absence of affordable tractors, ploughs, and irrigation facilities not only limits efficiency but also discourages youth participation in farming.
Frempong’s remarks serve as a call to action for stakeholders, government, private sector, and development partners to prioritize mechanization as a cornerstone of agricultural transformation.
Without it, Ghana risks falling short of its food security goals and missing opportunities to empower rural communities.
