GoldBod introduces GHS832 bonus per pound for licensed miners

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has introduced a special bonus package of GHS832 per pound of gold for all licensed miners across the country.

The initiative, announced on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, is aimed at cushioning miners from the impact of the recent appreciation of the Ghana cedi, which has caused a significant drop in local gold prices.

In an interview with happyghana.com, GoldBod’s Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minka, explained that with the bonus in place, a pound of gold that would have sold for GHS8,868 on the local market is now selling at GHS9,700.

According to him, the measure is also designed to motivate licensed miners, curb gold smuggling, and reduce the financial strain on those who comply with state regulations.

“The special bonus will ensure that licensed miners, who have contributed immensely to Ghana’s gold output and foreign exchange earnings, do not indirectly suffer from the very cedi appreciation they have helped the country to achieve,” he said.

Mr. Minka added that GoldBod has adequately resourced its licensed traders nationwide to facilitate prompt payment of the bonus to miners who sell directly to the Board.

He stressed, however, that the initiative is temporary and will be reviewed to determine whether it should be extended. He therefore encouraged all miners to take advantage of the package by channeling their sales through GoldBod.
