A 28-year-old labourer, Thomas Agbeko, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing an unregistered Peugeot motorbike worth GH¢20,000 from his neighbour’s warehouse in Kanda.

Agbeko pleaded guilty to unlawful entry, theft, and causing unlawful damage.

The court, presided over by Susana Eduful, handed down a 24-month sentence on each count, to run concurrently.

According to the prosecution, led by Police Chief Inspector Ebenezer Teye-Okuffo, the complainant, Madam Betty Agyeman, a trader, had imported secondhand goods from Italy in August 2024.

She engaged her houseboy and Agbeko to offload the items and later instructed Agbeko to push the motorbike into the warehouse for safekeeping.

On August 10, 2025, Agbeko allegedly informed a friend of his plan to steal the bike by tampering with its wiring. Though a second friend warned him against the act, Agbeko went ahead with the theft.

Madam Agyeman reported the motorbike stolen on August 18, prompting an immediate investigation.

Agbeko, initially denying involvement, later confessed to breaking into the warehouse with an accomplice named Solomon who is currently on the run and stealing the bike.

He told police he had taken the motorbike to Agbogbloshie-Zongo Junction to be sold, but refused to disclose to whom he had given it.

Agbeko was charged and convicted based on his confession and the evidence presented in court. Police are still searching for Solomon and the missing motorbike.
