The Tema Development Company (TDC) Limited has announced a major expansion of its affordable housing initiative, aiming to deliver 800 two-bedroom self-contained units by April 2026.
This move is part of a broader effort to make homeownership more accessible to everyday Ghanaians.
Speaking on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Managing Director Courage Makafui Nunekpeku emphasized that while Ghana may not face a housing shortage, affordability remains the biggest hurdle. “There are plenty of empty buildings, but most Ghanaians simply can’t afford them,” he noted.
The new units are part of Phase 4 of TDC’s long-running development at Kpone, Community 26, which has already delivered over 1,000 homes across Phases 1–3 over the past 19 years. The upcoming phase will add 100 blocks, bringing the total to around 1,800 housing units.
Targeting middle-income earners and public sector workers, the project incorporates cost-saving design and procurement strategies to keep prices low without compromising quality. Nunekpeku stressed that these groups are vital to national development and deserve housing that reflects their contributions.
This initiative is expected to ease pressure on Ghana’s urban housing market and support national efforts to close the affordability gap, offering a realistic path to homeownership for many.
