The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of vandalism of its installations, including transformers, poles, earth wires, fuses, and cables, by unidentified individuals.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 5, ECG revealed that some unscrupulous persons have been disguising themselves as staff of the company in order to steal essential components from its facilities.

According to the company, such criminal activities often result in disruptions to power supply, inconveniencing customers across the country.

“ONLY ECG staff are authorized to operate our installations and can be identified by their staff ID cards, ECG reflector vests, and vehicles,” the statement read.

The company further disclosed that, under Executive Instrument (EI) 38 of the Appointment of Public Prosecution Instrument (2010), it is legally empowered to prosecute individuals caught engaging in such criminal acts within its network.

ECG has appealed to customers and the general public to help protect its installations by reporting any suspicious activity. Reports can be made to the nearest police station, any ECG office, or through its contact center at 0302611611.
