President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has appealed to President Mahama to help secure the land title of the Ghana Press Centre and complete the long-awaited project, which has remained unfinished after 20 years of occupancy.

Speaking at a high-profile engagement hosted at the Presidency on Friday, the GJA President noted that the Press Centre was originally donated to the Association by statesman and former President John Agyekum Kufuor, through the then GJA President, Madam Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie.

He revealed that despite two decades of occupancy, the Press Centre remains incomplete and urgently needs attention. He emphasized that years of neglect have led to near claims of the land from the GJA.

“We’ve been occupying this property for years. Just few years ago, under the previous administration, we nearly lost ownership of that land.”

Given its prime location, the GJA envisions redeveloping the Press Centre into an ultramodern facility equipped with state-of-the-art resources and chambers that would serve as a proper representation of the media in Ghana.

Dwumfour described securing of the land title and the completion of the project as a potential monumental legacy for President Mahama, which would resonate beyond his tenure.

“Your Excellency, for you to help us secure the place through the land title and the press centre redevelopment. The project is long overdue. The media will be very grateful to you and your office. This will be a very fine legacy you will leave behind if it is done within and under your tenure as President.”
