The 2024 batch of recruited University and College of Education (COE) graduate teachers has appealed to the government and the Ministry of Education to urgently release their long-delayed salaries.

At a press conference held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra, the group’s convener, Simon Kofi Nartey, disclosed that College of Education graduates have gone 13 months without pay, while their university-trained colleagues have endured eight months without salaries or Staff IDs.

Mr. Nartey explained that despite several appeals to the Ghana Education Service (GES), they have only been told that all necessary processes have been completed and that the matter now rests with the Ministry of Finance for clearance. However, he lamented that months of waiting have yielded no results.

“Our lives are overwhelmed with debt. We are forced to borrow before we can pay rent, feed our families, and even transport ourselves to work,” he said.

He further revealed that some teachers have not received their Staff IDs at all, while those who have, still remain unpaid.

The group therefore appealed to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, GES, and President John Dramani Mahama to intervene immediately.

They warned that if the situation is not resolved, they will be left with no choice but to take to the streets in protest.
