A fire outbreak early Tuesday morning, September 9, 2025, razed more than 50 wooden structures at the European Town Railway enclave in Sekondi, Western Region. The blaze consumed homes, fishing equipment, school supplies, and a nearby church building.

This is the second major fire incident in the area, following a similar one recorded on September 9, 2022.

Deputy Western Regional Fire Commander, D.O. I Edith Dunyo, said the Ghana National Fire Service received a distress call around 5:30 a.m. and quickly responded to contain the flames. She confirmed that while no casualties were reported, residents suffered extensive property losses.

Eyewitnesses recounted waking up to shouts and flames spreading rapidly through the densely packed wooden structures. One woman said she lost all her belongings, but her children urged her to flee to safety.

Pastor Mavis Torkono of the International Glorious Greenland Ministries expressed worry about the repeated outbreaks and unsafe conditions in the area.

Residents are calling for a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and long-term interventions to prevent future disasters.
