Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has underscored the need to protect Ghana’s judiciary and constitutional processes from external influence.

Speaking at the Ghana Bar Association’s Annual Conference in Wa on September 15, Dr. Ayine cautioned professional bodies against seeking foreign intervention in domestic matters.

“While international partnerships are valuable for sharing ideas, we must ensure they do not cross into interference in our constitutional order,” he said.

His remarks follow a joint statement by the Bar Council of England and Wales and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, urging President John Mahama to reconsider the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Dr. Ayine emphasized that Ghana’s sovereignty rests with its people and that constitutional issues should remain under their control.

“It is Ghanaians who must safeguard the integrity of their institutions,” he noted.
