The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. TONG Defa, has pledged deeper collaboration with Ghana and the African continent in tackling climate change, with commitments to clean energy projects, green investments, and technology partnerships.

Speaking at the Ghana-China Climate Summit 2025 in Accra, on Tuesday September 16, 2025, Ambassador Defa said climate cooperation has become a central pillar of China-Africa relations.

“China promises to implement 30 clean energy projects in Africa, build meteorological early warning platforms, and enhance disaster prevention and biodiversity protection efforts,” he announced.

He disclosed that China has so far signed 53 climate cooperation agreements with 42 developing countries, backing nearly 100 adaptation and mitigation projects that have strengthened Africa’s climate resilience.

In Ghana, Ambassador Defa pointed to flagship projects such as the Bui Hydropower Station and the Sunon Asogli Power Plant, which have delivered billions of kilowatts of clean energy to the national grid.

He also noted that bilateral trade between Ghana and China reached a record $11.8 billion in 2024, with Chinese enterprises investing heavily in infrastructure, manufacturing, renewable energy, and petroleum refining.

“The friendship between China and Africa has stood the test of time and become stronger. Together, we can promote modernization and a just green transition,” he said, reaffirming China’s commitment to President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative.
