The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) has intensified its industrial action over poor conditions of service.

The union has directed members to remain at home until the government meets their demands.

On Friday, September 19, 2025, the union withdrew its services across all technical and public universities, the Ghana Library Authority, and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board.

They accused the government of failing to address long-standing concerns of non-teaching staff despite exhausting all laid-down procedures.

Speaking at an emergency meeting with members at the University of Ghana, TEWU-TUC Chairperson Salamatu Braimah said the union would only call off the strike once their demands are met.

“Until then, you are to stay at home… We cannot continue to operate under an expired condition of service from 2008 to date. We are saying that enough is enough,” she added.

Mrs. Braimah insisted that TEWU will only call off the action if “Fair Wages and Salaries Commission receives the appropriate mandate from the Ministry of Finance and other government employers for us to continue and conclude our negotiations.”

“All conditions of service have to be finalized and signed by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission before we also suspend the strike.”
