Accra Basketball League champions Spintex Knights have launched a fundraising campaign as they prepare for their next challenge on the continental stage, the Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualifiers.
The initiative, dubbed “It Takes a City,” calls on 10,000 supporters to contribute $20 each to back the team’s dream of conquering Africa. Funds raised will go directly toward the Knights’ preparations and participation in the qualifiers.
“Family, it’s that time again—we get to dream big with our Knights. The boys have put in the work all year, now it’s our turn to do ours,” the campaign message reads.
The Knights, who recently secured back-to-back Accra Basketball League titles, are determined to build on their domestic success by stamping their authority on the African stage.
Knights’ BAL Journey
Since their first appearance in the Basketball Africa League qualifiers, Spintex Knights have been breaking barriers for Ghanaian basketball. In 2023, they made history by becoming the first Ghanaian side to reach the Elite 16 stage of the qualifiers, a milestone that was celebrated as a major leap forward for the sport in the country.
They returned in 2024, once again earning a spot in the Elite 16, where they gained invaluable experience competing against some of the continent’s biggest clubs.
Though they narrowly missed out on the main BAL tournament, their consistent progress has firmly established them as one of the rising forces in African basketball.
Now, the Knights are determined to take the next step. With lessons learned from their previous campaigns, the club is confident that the support of fans will make the difference this time around.
“It took a crew to land the first man on the moon, and it will take a city to lift our Knights to the top of African basketball,” the club emphasized.
