The Sekyere Kumawu District Security Council (DISEC) has dismissed media reports suggesting heightened insecurity in Kumawu, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement signed by the District Chief Executive and Chairman of DISEC, Kwasi Amankwaa, the Council said its attention had been drawn to a publication alleging that the Paramount Chief of Kumawu, Nana Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, continuously engages armed men in the community.

Mr. Amankwaa stressed that investigations have shown the claims to be unfounded. According to findings from the traditional authorities, the individuals in question are not vigilantes nor permanently based in Kumawu.

Rather, they are cultural groups who occasionally accompany the Omanhene during important national and traditional events, such as the funeral of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s late mother.
“Their presence is strictly ceremonial and does not in any way constitute a security threat to Kumawu or its people,” the DCE clarified.

He further assured residents that Kumawu remains one of the most peaceful and united communities in the Ashanti Region, with no reports of intimidation, breaches of peace, or disruption of daily life.

Describing the publication as an attempt to create “unnecessary fear and panic,” DISEC condemned the misinformation and urged the public to disregard it.

The Council also cautioned individuals and media houses against spreading false reports that could tarnish the image of traditional authorities and destabilize the unity of the area.

“The peace and safety of our people are, and will always remain, our top priority. Kumawu is peaceful, Kumawu is safe, and Kumawu will continue to thrive in unity and development,” the statement read.
