Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has dismissed circulating conspiracy theories following the reversal of US visa restrictions placed on Ghana under the order of President Donald Trump.

The minister in a statement across social media, assured citizens that Ghana will not become a “dumping ground” for deportees and that ongoing negotiations with the United States are focused on broader economic and trade benefits.

“We respectfully ask that Ghanaians ignore conspiracy theorists and scaremongers,” the statement said. “Ghana is not accepting criminals from the US. The limited arrangement involves only pre-vetted West African nationals without criminal backgrounds, in line with ECOWAS protocols.”

Ablakwa further emphasized that Ghana’s national security remains a priority. “Our mutually beneficial deal with the US government will not undermine Ghana’s security and stability in any way,” the statement noted.

He revealed that current negotiations extend beyond migration issues, covering tariff reassessments, a potential special Ghana-US trade deal, opportunities for US companies, and the future of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which is vital to Ghana’s garment industry.

“The Mahama Administration deeply cares for you. We shall keep working tirelessly to protect our strategic national interest, and we shall ensure our best efforts benefit all Ghanaians,”
