Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has pledged unwavering support to the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives, assuring them that the government will not rest until every outstanding salary is paid.

Speaking in response to a protest held on October 2, 2025, Akandoh acknowledged the frustration of nearly 7,000 nurses and midwives who have gone unpaid for up to 10 months.

The demonstrators, who were officially recruited and began working in December 2024, marched from Efua Sutherland Children’s Park to the Ministries of Finance and Health, demanding immediate action.

“We will not relax until all of you are paid,” Akandoh declared, emphasizing the government’s commitment to resolving the issue.

However, he cautioned that the financial obligations were not included in the 2025 national budget, and warned that a rushed implementation could strain the economy.

The coalition, made up of healthcare professionals serving in various public facilities, described the delay as emotionally and financially devastating.

Their petition calls for urgent intervention to ensure their welfare and continued service delivery.

Akandoh assured the group that further dialogue would continue and that their concerns were being taken seriously at the highest level of government.
