The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten individuals accused of operating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.

In a statement, the Police said the arrests were carried out by the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) following weeks of sustained intelligence operations.

The first six suspects identified as Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah were picked up on October 1, 2025, during a special operation at Sogakope.

Police say the suspects created counterfeit websites and social media pages posing as popular food brands, including Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarco.

Unsuspecting victims who placed orders through these fake platforms were directed to make advance payments via mobile money but never received their food. In some cases, the suspects reportedly gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts under the pretext of assisting them with payment, and withdrew funds illegally.

Digital devices believed to have been used in the fraudulent operations were seized and are currently undergoing forensic analysis.

Further investigations led to the arrest of four additional suspects, including the alleged ringleader, Elijah Sotama Etse, also known as Pop Smoke, along with Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli. The suspects were apprehended on October 12, 2025, from their hideout at Haatso, Accra. Police recovered twelve mobile phones from them, which are being preserved for forensic examination.

All ten suspects are in custody and are expected to be arraigned before court today, Monday, October 13, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to the scam to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
