The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has commended the Operation Walk programme for its remarkable contribution to making orthopedic surgery accessible and affordable to Ghanaians.

During a visit to the St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua, the Minister praised the initiative for significantly reducing the financial burden on patients who previously had to pay as much as GH₵70,000 for orthopedic procedures.

He described the intervention as lifesaving and economically transformative, noting that it has restored hope to many who could not afford treatment.

Mr. Akandoh disclosed that the Ministry of Health is working closely with Operation Walk to extend similar services to other regions, particularly the northern, central, and other underserved areas of the country.

“Government will do whatever it takes to strengthen this partnership and ensure these missionary services reach other parts of the country,” he assured.

The Minister further encouraged corporate bodies and individuals who wish to donate medical supplies to liaise directly with the Ministry.

He said such collaboration would promote transparency and ensure the equitable distribution of equipment and consumables.

He emphasized, pledging the Ministry’s full support to programmes that bring relief and restore dignity to patients nationwide.

Director of Operation Walk, Kimberly Murray, expressed appreciation to the Ministry for its continuous support. She also praised the commitment of local doctors and nurses, whose hard work and collaboration, she said, continue to inspire the visiting team.

According to her, the partnership between Ghanaian medical professionals and Operation Walk has not only transformed lives but is also building the country’s surgical capacity for the future.
