Adutwum Pledges Free University Education If Elected President

Former Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has vowed to introduce free university education in Ghana if elected president.

Speaking to delegates in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Adutwum said the initiative would eliminate financial barriers and ensure that all qualified Ghanaian students have access to higher education, regardless of their economic background.

“Education is the greatest equaliser. No Ghanaian child should miss out on university because of poverty,” he said. “Under my leadership, tertiary education will not be a privilege for a few, but a right for all.”

Dr. Adutwum outlined a phased approach to the policy, beginning with public universities and prioritising science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programmes.

He explained that the initiative would be funded through better resource management, enhanced revenue mobilisation, and partnerships with the private sector.

“We can achieve this if we manage our resources better and make education a true national priority,” he stated.

Widely recognised for his work in promoting STEM during his time as Education Minister, Dr. Adutwum emphasised his goal to build a globally competitive, knowledge-based economy.

“Ghana’s future depends on how well we invest in our human capital. I have the experience, the vision, and the commitment to make education truly transformative,” he declared.

He described the proposed free university education policy as the next bold step following the Free SHS programme.
