Lands Minister announces upcoming Galamsey Progress Report series

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah has drawn the attention of Ghanaians to anticipate the release of the Galamsey Progress Report, set to give Ghanaians detailed reports on the government’s efforts in combatting illegal mining practices.

The Minister who made the announcement on social media, in a video post indicated that the effects of galamsey have not only caused great harm to the nation, but have also stripped Ghana of the opportunity to put the 5,500 hectares of land affected to good use, given their equivalent as 7,500 football pitches.

The report series comprises of structured plans that will aid in the reformation of the licensing regime, land reclamation, and restoration of polluted waters. It will also include scheduled dates for community and stakeholder engagements and the rollout of preventive action policy – Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (RCOMSDEP).

Meanwhile, the High Court in Accra, according to happyghana.com has granted bail of GH¢10 million to a number of political figures as investigations continue having been charged with crimes of promoting illegal mining in Ghana.
