A major fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Kantamanto Tazani Lane near Ecobank in Accra, destroying several commercial structures.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at 1:31 a.m., and the first fire engine arrived at the scene by 1:42 a.m. In total, seven fire engines and a turntable ladder were dispatched from fire stations at Circle, Industrial Area, Accra Regional Headquarters, Madina, and Legon. Two additional appliances from the GNFS National Headquarters also assisted in the operation.

Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly three hours before managing to contain it at 4:49 a.m.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, along with the Director of Operations, Greater Accra Regional Commander, and other senior officials, visited the site to assess the damage and support ongoing efforts.

No injuries have been reported so far. The fire crew remain on-site to fully extinguish any lingering hotspots.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
