Government to Focus on Fiscal Discipline and Job Creation in 2026 Budget

The government has announced that the 2026 Budget will focus on strengthening fiscal discipline and creating jobs, as part of efforts to consolidate Ghana’s economic stability and sustain progress made under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, made this known during a media engagement ahead of the budget presentation. He said the initiative aligns with government’s broader strategy to promote sustainable growth and inclusive development as the country prepares to exit the IMF support programme next year.

According to Mr. Ampem, maintaining fiscal discipline will remain a key priority to prevent a return to high budget deficits and unsustainable debt levels.

“Our focus is to maintain fiscal stability while creating more jobs for Ghanaians. We are committed to ensuring that the gains achieved under the IMF programme are preserved and translated into tangible improvements in the lives of our citizens,” he stated.

He added that job creation will be a central pillar of the 2026 Budget, with targeted interventions in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and digital innovation to boost employment opportunities, especially for the youth.

The Deputy Minister further assured that government will continue to engage stakeholders to ensure the upcoming budget reflects national development priorities while upholding fiscal prudence.

The 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy is scheduled to be presented to Parliament in November.
