Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has reportedly passed away at the age of 76.

She is said to have died at the Ridge Hospital in Accra after a period of ill health during which she was under close medical supervision.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a towering figure in Ghanaian politics and a leading advocate for women’s empowerment. Throughout her public life, she championed gender equality and social development initiatives across the country.

Details surrounding her death remain unclear, as neither her family nor hospital authorities have released an official statement.

Agyeman-Rawlings served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001 and later became the founder and leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP).

In 1982, she established the 31st December Women’s Movement (DWM), a transformative organization that promoted entrepreneurship, education, and political participation among Ghanaian women.

Her most recent public appearance was on September 18, 2025, when she attended, alongside her children, the final funeral rites of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

As of now, the cause of her death remains unknown. The nation waits in anticipation for an official announcement from her family, which is expected to provide further details regarding her passing and funeral arrangements.
