The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso Central, Rudolph Collingwood William, has clarified that the Ayawaso Central Municipality operates independently and is no longer under the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

Speaking on the Happy Morning Show hosted by Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah, Mr. William explained that many residents are unaware of the municipality’s autonomy, hence the Assembly is intensifying public education to create awareness.

He noted that although some properties have been registered under the Ayawaso Central Municipality, their owners still pay taxes to the AMA. In such cases, AMA officials often redirect them to pay their levies to the Ayawaso Central Assembly.

“We have a strong collaboration with other municipalities. When people come to us mistakenly, we direct them to their rightful assemblies, and they also do the same for us,” he said.

Mr. William commended Assembly Members for their efforts in educating residents about the municipality’s operations and boundaries.

Touching on challenges, the MCE admitted that the Assembly is facing some setbacks but is working hard to overcome them.

On revenue mobilisation, he stated that collections have not been encouraging since he took office but assured that the Assembly will continue educating residents to fulfil their tax obligations.

Addressing security concerns, Mr. William said the municipality has maintained a generally peaceful environment. He explained that while some criminal incidents occur near market areas such as the resale of stolen items they do not originate within the municipality itself.

“The situation has improved significantly, and our security collaboration remains strong,” he added.

He listed Nima, Kotobabi, Accra New Town, Mallam Atta, and Circle among the communities that make up the Ayawaso Central Municipality.

Mr. William also highlighted President John Dramani Mahama’s promises to the municipality, noting that the National Apprenticeship Programme has already begun. “People are registering to benefit from the programme,” he said.
