Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka has presented the findings of a report on violence related to the 2020 and 2024 general elections.

According to the Minister, the investigation, conducted by a task force inaugurated by the Inspector General of Police on January 16, 2025, identified 12 major cases of election-related violence across the country. These incidents resulted in 15 fatalities and left more than 40 people injured.

The report provides a detailed account of each case, outlining how the police were notified, the responses taken, and subsequent actions when the task force assumed control of the investigations. It included interviews, interrogations, crime scene reconstructions, and forensic analysis of evidence gathered during the probe.

Minister Muntaka emphasized that the thorough review aims to strengthen accountability and ensure justice for victims.

“Every violent incident recorded during the general elections involved criminal offences committed by different individuals, and these must be addressed,” he said.

The Minister also assured Ghanaians that the findings will guide law enforcement and other relevant authorities in holding perpetrators accountable, preventing future election-related violence, and promoting safer, more peaceful democratic processes.
