The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has cut sod for the construction of a €5.6 million Centre of Excellence for Green Technology at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI).

The project, a key component of Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) transformation agenda, is designed to serve as a hub for innovation, research, and hands on training in renewable energy and sustainable technologies.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu said the initiative aligns with the government’s “Reset Agenda,” which seeks to tackle youth unemployment through skill-oriented education.

“As part of President Mahama’s Reset Agenda, His Excellency Steinmeier, we are focusing on developing a TVET policy and establishing a TVET Fund to support the skills training of young people, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to national development,” he stated.

The official programme began on Monday with President Steinmeier inspecting a full military Guard of Honour at the Forecourt of the Jubilee House.

President Steinmeier later held a closed-door meeting with President Mahama before joining their respective delegations for bilateral talks in the Credentials Room.

Discussions centred on deepening Ghana Germany relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, technology, and development cooperation.
