The Presidential Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), chaired by former Bekwai MP Joseph Osei Owusu, has disclosed that all suspended members of the party will be stripped of their voting rights until they complete the official reinstatement process.

Addressing the media on Thursday, November 6, Mr. Osei Owusu explained that members who forfeited their party membership and later returned would be treated as new entrants, without any voting rights or entitlement to their previous positions.

“You automatically lose your membership when you contest against or campaign for a candidate other than the party’s official candidate. The party’s amnesty covered members with disciplinary sanctions, except those who have forfeited their membership. Such individuals must reapply,” he clarified.

He further stated that rejoining the party comes with new-member status: “If you forfeit your membership today and later rejoin, you start afresh. You must wait at least two years before you can contest for any position. Even if you once had voting rights, they do not return automatically you begin as a new member.”

Mr. Osei Owusu also disclosed that the Committee will present the final voter album to the presidential aspirants on November 13, 2025, expressing confidence in the Committee’s preparedness for the upcoming primaries scheduled for January 2026.

Contesting for the NPP’s presidential slot ahead of the 2028 general elections are former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Abetifi MP and former Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, and former Education Minister Dr. Osei Adutwum.
