National Daily Minimum Wage will rise from GH₵19.97 to GH₵21.77 starting 1 January 2026, a 9 percent increase aimed at easing the pressure of rising living costs. The adjustment, announced by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, follows a period of high inflation and comes after negotiations with trade unions and employer groups.
Officials said the new rate will apply to all workers covered by the Minimum Wage Act and is intended to protect low‑income earners as the country grapples with higher food and fuel prices.
Labour leaders welcomed the move but cautioned that further revisions may be needed to keep pace with inflation.
Employers have been urged to update payroll systems promptly to avoid penalties, while the government pledged to monitor the impact on the broader economy and to issue supplementary guidelines in the coming weeks.
The wage hike is expected to affect a wide range of sectors, from agriculture to services, and could influence wage negotiations across the private sector.
