The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have launched simultaneous intelligence-led operations in parts of the Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo Regions to arrest individuals involved in recent attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and other security personnel.

The joint swoops, which commenced at dawn on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, targeted specific areas including Dadwene and Anwona in the Ashanti Region, Ehi in the Volta Region, and Hwedieem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani in the Ahafo Region.

In a press statement issued and signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations at the Ghana Armed Forces, the operation seeks to apprehend suspects responsible for the attacks on the NAIMOS team, some Police officers, and officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including journalists.

The statement warned that any individual or groups who obstruct the work of security personnel in their anti-galamsey operations or any other lawful duty will face the full force of the law.

“The Armed Forces and the Police Service wish to assure the general public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of well-meaning inhabitants of these towns and communities. They are encouraged to remain calm and go about their regular duties without fear or panic,” the statement read.

The Security Services further commended civil society groups, the media, and individuals for their condemnation of the unwarranted attacks on security personnel and disruptions to anti-galamsey activities.

They also called for continued public cooperation in the ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining.
