Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that Ghana’s natural gas supply has increased by more than 50 million standard cubic feet, marking a significant boost to the country’s energy generation capacity.
The disclosure was made during the ongoing presentation of the 2026 Budget and Economic Policy in Parliament on Thursday.
Dr. Ato Forson highlighted the milestone as part of government’s broader efforts to stabilise the power sector, reduce dependence on expensive fuel imports, and support industrial growth.
“We have added more than 50 million standard cubic feet of gas to our national supply,” he told lawmakers, noting that the expansion is expected to lower the cost of electricity generation and strengthen the reliability of power for homes and businesses.
The Finance Minister said the improvement in gas availability forms part of the administration’s long-term energy strategy, which prioritises local gas utilisation, investment in processing infrastructure, and collaboration with private partners.
He added that government remains committed to achieving a sustainable and affordable energy mix that supports economic transformation under the 2026 Budget theme, “Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation.”
