The Christian Council of Ghana has urged President John Dramani Mahama to renew government’s commitment to completing the National Cathedral, despite the country’s current economic difficulties.

During a courtesy call on the President at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, November 18, the Council acknowledged the prevailing economic hardship but maintained that, if completed under a transparent framework, the cathedral would serve as an enduring spiritual and cultural monument.

Vice Chairman of the Council, Rev. Enoch Thompson, noted:

“While we are aware of the prevailing economic difficulties, we believe that the cathedral’s completion, under a transparent, accountable, and inclusive framework, would serve as a spiritual and cultural landmark for generations to come.”

The delegation presented three key recommendations to the President:

1. Reaffirm government’s commitment to the National Cathedral project and ensure its continuation.

2. Develop a broad-based funding model that brings together churches, the private sector and international partners to minimise the financial burden on the state.

3. Reposition the cathedral as a truly national, interdenominational project aimed at promoting unity and cohesion among Ghanaians.

The Council expressed optimism that, with renewed political will, enhanced transparency and stronger oversight, the stalled project could regain public trust and move steadily towards completion.
