The National Peace Council (NPC) has applauded the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his decisive leadership in mediating the protracted chieftaincy conflict in Bawku, describing his efforts as a major step toward ending decades of violence in the area.

With the final mediation sessions slated for November 30 and December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace, the Council says it is optimistic that the multi-stage process, led by the Asantehene, is inching closer to a lasting breakthrough. According to the NPC, the carefully structured engagements championed by Otumfuo offer the most credible path to sustainable peace in the conflict-prone municipality.

In a statement issued on Saturday, November 22, the Council commended both the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions for their cooperation throughout the separate and joint meetings held so far. It urged the parties to maintain their calm and openness as the process enters its most critical phase.

The NPC noted that resolving the traditional and chieftaincy disputes that have fueled years of deadly clashes, displaced families, and destroyed livelihoods in Bawku would represent a significant milestone for national peace and cohesion. A final settlement, it stressed, would not only save lives but also strengthen Ghana’s reputation for resolving complex conflicts through dialogue.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress made so far, the Council appealed to both factions to remain committed to the mediation process and to give the Otumfuo-led committee all the support it needs to secure a lasting resolution.
