GRA Sports Unit Celebrates Historic 2025 Season as Female Hockey and Basketball Teams Dominate Ghana and Africa

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Sports Unit has recorded one of its most successful sporting years yet, with the Authority’s female hockey and basketball teams sweeping major titles across Ghana and the continent in 2025.

Led by Sports Unit Head, Ebenezer Frimpong, the GRA female hockey team already five-time African champions, maintained a perfect run throughout the year, winning all five tournaments they competed in. Their victories include:

Africa Club Championship (Egypt)

T-Tommy Tournament (Kumasi)

Oguaa Fetu Championship (Cape Coast)

Greater Accra Hockey League

Greater Accra Knockout Tournament

Their exceptional season was further amplified by individual award wins. Vivian Narkuor emerged as one of the standout athletes of the year, sweeping the Best Player and Top Scorer awards at the Africa Club Championships, winning Best Female Hockey Player at the 2025 SWAG Awards, and finishing as Top Scorer in the Greater Accra League.
Goalkeeper Matilda Addison was also named Best Goalkeeper of the Africa Club Championships.

The GRA female basketball team matched this triumph, going unbeaten throughout 2025 to win:

After 7 / Cowbell Championship (Cape Coast)

Greater Accra Basketball League

Their dominance earned them top individual honours as well. Hannah Amoako won Most Valuable Player, Gloria Gyampo was named Defensive Player of the Year, and Coach Richard Borsah received the award for Best Female Coach.

Speaking on the teams’ achievements, Sports Unit Head Ebenezer Frimpong praised the unity and commitment behind the victories.

“All these achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the technical staff and the playing body,” he said.

He also acknowledged the unwavering support of GRA staff and top management, led by Commissioner-General Anthony Sarpong, noting that their investment and encouragement played a crucial role in the teams’ success.

Frimpong further urged the nation to view sports as a viable investment opportunity.

“It is about time the country sees sports as an investment rather than expenditure.”

The GRA sporting success story, he added, reflects the Authority’s long-term commitment to talent development, youth engagement, and national sports excellence
