President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Minister of Education to undertake a comprehensive review of the examiners’ report on the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to determine the causes of the sharp decline in student performance.

Speaking at the unveiling of the STEMBox initiative for primary schools on Thursday, December 4 at the Osu Presby Church Forecourt, Accra, President Mahama said the poor results had become a major source of worry for stakeholders, including government and parents.

According to him, after discussions with the minister, he directed that a thorough analysis be conducted to identify what might have gone seriously wrong.

“It has become an issue of great concern to the government, parents, and the public at large. I was speaking with the minister, and I have asked them to do an analysis of the examiners’ report and try and decipher what could have gone so disastrously wrong,”he said.

President Mahama described the decline in performance as mind-boggling, noting that it was difficult to comprehend how, with the same teachers and similar conditions, one batch of students could perform so poorly compared to the previous one.

“It is mind-boggling that with the same teachers, the same factors in play just from one batch to another, one batch does so disastrously,” he added.

He has instructed the Education Minister to probe the matter and report back with detailed findings.
