The Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has confirmed that his office has formally submitted a request to the United States for the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and his alleged accomplice, Ernest Darko Kore.

Dr. Ayine explained that the request was initiated by the Special Prosecutor’s office, which sought the extradition of both individuals. Following a comprehensive review and strengthening of the documentation, the Attorney General’s office forwarded the request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for submission to the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Minister noted that U.S. judicial authorities will now assess whether there is a sufficient legal basis for the extradition. Ofori-Atta and his alleged accomplice face 78 charges, including causing financial loss to the state and using public office for private gain.

Dr. Ayine underscored the government’s commitment to accountability, affirming that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that those accused are held responsible under Ghanaian law. He made the remarks during the Government Accountability Series on 18 December 2025.
