The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has imposed a curfew on Nalerigu Township and its surrounding areas in the North East Region following advice from the National Security Council.

The curfew, which takes effect from today, Thursday, December 18, 2025, will run daily from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am and is aimed at restoring calm and maintaining public order amid security challenges in the area.

In a statement issued by the Ministry, the government appealed to Chiefs, Elders, opinion leaders, the youth, and residents of Nalerigu and its environs to exercise restraint and cooperate with authorities to ensure peace.

The statement further urged residents to adopt non-violent means in addressing grievances and challenges confronting the community.

As part of the security measures, the Ministry announced a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within Nalerigu Township and its environs.

Persons found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Additional restrictions have also been imposed, including a ban on the movement of motorbikes, the wearing of smocks, the sale of fuel in containers, and all forms of unlawful assembly.

The Interior Ministry emphasized that the measures are necessary to safeguard lives and property and called on the public to fully comply with the directives to support ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the area.
