The President’s Special Envoy to the Sahel, Colonel Larry Gbevlo Lartey (Rtd), has received a Nigerian aircraft and its crew following their release by authorities in Burkina Faso after being detained over an alleged violation of Burkinabe airspace.

In a statement issued and signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Saturday, December 20, Colonel Gbevlo Lartey welcomed the aircrew on behalf of the President and expressed appreciation to both the Nigerian and Burkina Faso governments for resolving the matter amicably through diplomatic engagement.

He described the successful resolution of the incident as a reflection of the strong bonds among countries in the West African subregion, noting that neighbours can address and settle misunderstandings peacefully through dialogue.

“The incident is an indication that we are brothers and sisters in the West African subregion and can resolve our differences in a neighbourly manner,” he stated.

The aircraft and its crew are expected to remain in Ghana temporarily to allow the crew to rest and conduct the necessary technical checks.

They will proceed to Portugal once clearance is granted, where the aircraft is scheduled to undergo servicing.
