The Minister for Communication and Digitalisation, Sam George, has confirmed the arrest of 48 suspected cybercrime operatives following a joint nighttime, intelligence-led operation in the Dawhenya area of the constituency.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, the minister said the intelligence-led operation was carried out by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in collaboration with National Security and the Ghana Police Service, describing it as a decisive strike against organised cybercrime networks operating in the country.

According to him, preliminary interrogation suggests that the suspects are Nigerian nationals, made up of 46 males and two females.

The group is believed to be involved in a range of cyber-related crimes, including romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes, and illicit online gold trading.

Items retrieved during the operation included 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, one Starlink internet device, and eight MTN TurboNet routers, which authorities believe were used to facilitate the alleged criminal activities.

Sam George reaffirmed government’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s digital space, stating that security agencies will continue to carry out what he described as “intelligence-led surgical strikes” against cybercrime syndicates.

“Ghana welcomes everyone interested in legitimate enterprise. We will remain a hostile domain for cyber criminals,” the minister stressed.

He commended the operatives involved in the operation for their professionalism, noting that their conduct reflects the high standards for which Ghana’s security services are recognised globally.
