The Commercial Transport Operators’ Union has cautioned drivers to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to help reduce road accidents during the festive season.

Addressing the media at a press briefing, the Acting National Chairman of the Association, Asonaba Nana Weredu, warned drivers against drunk driving, reckless overtaking and excessive spending, which he identified as major contributors to road crashes.

He stressed the need for motorists to respect all road signs and traffic rules to ensure the safety of passengers and other road users.

He further cautioned drivers who take advantage of the festive period to charge unapproved fares, noting that the Union will apprehend offenders and ensure they face the full rigours of the law.

Mr. Weredu also used the occasion to commend sector agencies, including the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Energy and the National Petroleum Authority, for their efforts in ensuring a significant reduction in fuel prices.

He urged all transport operators to take good care of themselves and work diligently as the country prepares to enter the new year.
