A six-year-old boy, identified as Godfred Aboagye, has tragically lost his life after drowning in a water storage tank at Walantu, a suburb of Kasoa.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the incident, explaining that the child fell into an uncovered water tank located within a compound house. Despite prompt rescue efforts, he was retrieved lifeless.

According to the Central Regional Fire Service, a distress call was received on Monday, December 29, at about 5:03 p.m. A rescue team was immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene at 5:13 p.m. The operation ended at 5:28 p.m., after the child’s body was recovered and handed over to the police for preservation and further investigations.

Preliminary findings indicate that the young boy was playing with a ball when it accidentally dropped into the water tank. In an attempt to retrieve it, he entered the tank and drowned
