The spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, has urged constituents of Ayawaso East to uphold the core values exemplified by the late Member of Parliament, Naser Toure Mahama, as they prepare to elect a new representative.

Speaking in an interview at the National Mosque in Accra during the burial rites for the late MP, Sheikh Shaibu stressed that integrity, service and respect for humanity should guide the choice of a successor, rather than academic credentials alone.

According to him, Ghana’s Constitution allows individuals from diverse educational backgrounds to serve in Parliament, provided they demonstrate the character and competence required for public office.

He noted that the late Naser Toure Mahama embodied values such as honesty, trustworthiness, empathy, stewardship and a genuine spirit of service to humanity, which earned him the confidence of the people and justified his place in Parliament.

“The constituency should be guided by principles and values of honesty, true service to humanity, respect for people, empathy and sympathy. These are the fundamental qualities members should look out for when electing someone to represent them in Parliament,” he said.

He added that while higher academic qualifications can be an advantage, they should only serve to complement, not replace, strong moral values and a commitment to public service.

Sheikh Shaibu called on the public to continue praying for the late MP, asking Allah to grant him mercy and forgiveness, and encouraged unity and reflection among constituents as they mourn his passing.
