President John Dramani Mahama has handed over 100 pickup vehicles to the Ghana Police Service in a move aimed at strengthening policing and enhancing public safety across the country.

The vehicles, presented in Accra on Thursday, January 8, form the first batch of several consignments expected to be delivered to the Police Service.

President Mahama stressed that the pickups are meant to support core police operations rather than serve as symbolic or ceremonial items.

“These 100 pickups are the first batch of several pickups that we shall be presenting to the Police Service. These are operational necessities,” the President said.

He explained that the vehicles will improve police patrols, reduce response times, extend security coverage to hard-to-reach communities, and enhance police visibility nationwide.

According to President Mahama, the new additions will enable officers to respond more swiftly to emergencies and operate more safely, particularly in remote areas.

“In simple terms, they will get the police to where they are needed faster and safer,” he added.

Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the service, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, expressed profound appreciation to the President for the support.

He assured that the vehicles would be well maintained and effectively deployed to promote peace and national security.

“I wish to express the heartfelt appreciation of the Ghana Police Service to you. We assure you of our loyalty and our commitment to protect these assets, deploy them wisely, and use them relentlessly in the service of peace, safety, and national stability,” IGP stated.

IGP Yohuno further reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to supporting national development and ongoing reforms within the security sector.
