The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng from the party following comments he made during a television interview in which he described the party as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member.

In a statement issued on January 13, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken due notice of remarks made by Professor Frimpong Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026.

According to the party, Professor Frimpong Boateng made several disparaging comments about the NPP and further alleged that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.

The NPP has strongly rejected what it described as the “unfortunate characterization” of the party and firmly denied the allegations surrounding the 2023 presidential primary, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated.

The party maintained that the presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, faithfully reflecting the will of party delegates.

It added that the process had been widely acknowledged as such by all candidates who participated, as well as by well-meaning members of the party.

The NPP further described the conduct and utterances of Professor Frimpong Boateng as highly reprehensible and contrary to the values, unity, and integrity of the party.

Consequently, the statement said the party has invoked the relevant provisions of its constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel Professor Frimpong Boateng, assuring that the action will be carried out strictly in accordance with due process.
